Certainly the Old Town Mall holds a multitude of shopping, dining and entertainment activities. These include seasonal events on the mall and at the old Frederick County Court House. Heading west along Boscawen St. the trail passes the historic Grace Lutheran and Christ Episcopal churches as well as some of the older, grander homes of the city. Along the north side of Amherst Street is the Selma estate as well as the headquarters of Preservation of Historic Winchester which occupies of the few historic octagonal houses in the country.
The grounds of Glen Burnie represent the ancestral home of the founder of Winchester, Col. James Wood. Col. Wood was also the mentor for a major in the Virginia militia, helping start the political career of one George Washington.
Included on the grounds of Glen Burnie ( a working farm inside the city) is the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. The museum tells the story of the valley’s settlement and serves as a place for other events and gatherings both private and public.
