- Harvest Drive to Millwood
Harvest Drive to Millwood
Trail Description:
This segment is currently under development. No trail is constructed in this area except for a short segment of asphalt trail in front of the SPCA on Featherbed Lane.
By Foot:
For now, pedestrians would need to cross the opposite side of Jubal Early Drive and walk on the grass (facing traffic) a short distance (including over the Abram’s Creek Bridge) until reaching the stretch of sidewalk that extends along Jubal Early Drive down the hill to Valley Avenue (Route 11). There are sidewalks provided along both sides of Jubal Early Drive from Valley Avenue eastward. The Apple Blossom Mall has entrances to both Jubal Early Drive and South Pleasant Valley Road. Those wishing to view Abram’s Creek should turn to the south on Pleasant Valley Road (in front of McDonald’s) and continue to Featherbed Lane, which is the next signalized intersection. There are no sidewalks along the south (creek) side of Featherbed Lane, so walkers should consider using the sidewalk segments along the north side of the street. The asphalt trail across the SPCA property is available to the public to walk along near the creek. Walkers can cross Pleasant Valley Road and walk along the roadway into Apple Blossom Mall or down along the creek in the wooded area east of South Pleasant Valley Road.
On Bike (suggested alternate route):
Jubal Early Drive is a heavily trafficked 4-lane divided highway. Experienced cyclist can share the road, but it is not recommended. Backtracking west on Jubal Early to Handley Avenue (on the right) is a safer route through a residential area. At Bellview Avenue, turn right and proceed down the steep hill to Valley Avenue. Then cross Valley Avenue and continue to Bellview to South Loudoun Street. Then turn right on Loudoun Street and continue south to the intersection of Featherbed Lane. Turn left and follow Featherbed Lane to Pleasant Valley Road.
