Westside Station Drive and Wayland Drive
Trail Description
Currently there are no safe bike or pedestrian accommodations for the Merrimans Lane route. On the southeast corner of Amherst Street and Meadow Branch Avenue, a 10-foot separated multi-use trail was included with the construction of CVS pharmacy. The Green Circle is planned to extend along the east side of Meadown Branch Avenue once the road is extended.
From CVS, the most practical options for pedestrians are to continue west on the south side of Amherst Street to West Side Station and follow south to the cul de sac that is opposite the terminus of Wayland Drive. NOTE: There is a large ditch to cross. Pedestrians can follow Wayland Drive out to Merriman’s Lane and Breckenridge Drive. There are no sidewalks from Wayland Drive to the Morlyn Hills subdivision, but traffic is very light, except for the short segment of Merriman’s Lane and Breckenridge Drive. Use extreme caution when walking or cycling this section, as there are currently no accommodations for either pedestrians or cyclists.
Experienced cyclists (A- and B-level) may elect to travel Merriman’s Lane to Breckenridge Drive to the entrance of the Abram’s Creek Wetlands Preserve off the Stone Leigh Drive cul de sac. Those cyclists may also elect to continue south on Merriman’s Lane into Frederick County to bike routes designated by the Winchester Wheelman.
