Nature Walks
Area Naturalist, Jim Smith, conducts bi-weekly interpretive walks from 8:00-10:00 am on Saturdays during the spring and fall, focusing on migrating bird populations and other unique features. Other programs, sponsored by the Shenandoah University Environmental Studies Program, The Opequon Watershed, Inc., and the Northern Shenandoah Audubon Society, are held throughout the year.
The annual Green Circle 5K and 1-Mile Kid’s Fun Run races, which are sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley Runners and the Shenandoah University Physical Therapy Department, is held on the first Saturday of October each year. The races begin and end at the Abrams Crossing Shopping Center on Jubal Early Drive and are routed through the Abram’s Creek Wetlands Preserve. The 5K race begins at 8:30 am and the Kid’s Fun Run begins at 9:15 am. All proceeds go to support the Winchester Green Circle.
